Fire Safety

June25

So our Chasey can now open windows. With our park across the street it’s only a matter of time before he chooses to knock out the screen and go play during his nap or at night. That creates a source of anxiety for me. Sooo looking into “child” locks there are really none that he cannot operate. The only ones he can’t operate are ones his brothers couldn’t operate or in a fire would be hard if not impossible to remove.

So our real plight is this… in the event of a fire, if Neil and I were incapacitated, Chase cannot escape out his window, and he hides — he is very good at hiding — how would one know to look for him, or would they know where… This is where I was putting too much thought into it….

So I called and asked what the fire department recommends. They eased my mind alot. They said to inform our other children. Make it part of our plan for Aiden or Alex to make sure to go and call, and tell a neighbor or fireman that Chase has autism and that he hides, and his favorite hiding places… Also to tell a neighbor the same, so they know to inform the firemen as well. They said to put the permanent lock on the window, and not worry about it. They also said do not put stickers on the window as it’s an attraction for burglars or would be kidnappers that it’s a safe spot to break in at… aka it’s definitely not Mom and Dad’s room.  They also stopped using the stickers in the 80’s because people would move and not remove the sticker so they were never sure if they were current or not, so they weren’t reliable….

So anyway the call eased my mind because they told me to go ahead and go permanent and explained to me their search procedures and how they thing. Information is definitely a good thing.

Random Stuff

June24

These are just a few random photos! The feet are Chase’s. I posted earlier in the week about him in his room coloring “ladybugs” on his feet… these were his “ladybugs”. He realized today that they were off, and asked to put more ladybugs on his feet. The food was our dinner from the other night. The boys totally dug the fruit kabobs, and the last 2 are my attempt at making sunflower cookies (instead of peanut butter)… the completely ended up FLAT FLAT FLAT but they sure did taste good!

Why Hello Ladybug!!

June21

So we put the the little boys down for a nap. We are sitting there and we are listening to Chase. He says “It’s a LADYBUG, Hellllllooooo Ladybugs” and keeps talking to the ladybugs. Neil finally got up to go put him back to bed and see what he was doing, make sure he didn’t find a real bug or something…. He has been VERY into ladybugs lately!!

Neil walked into Chase’s room and Chase had markers and had drawn ladybugs all over his feet and toes and was talking to them. He had also drawn all over his carpet. Thankfully it’s coming up soon, and that was all he wrote on. It was totally my mistake. I took the markers and stamps into his room this morning so he could write his name on Neil’s fathers day card. I have stamps that make connect the dot learn to write style letters, Chase can trace them to make letters… it’s pretty cool. Aaaaanyway they were on top of the armiore in his room and he got them down and colored.

I will have to get a picture of his ladybugs later!!

VBS @ Northchurch.tv

June20

I took the boys to NorthChurch.tv this week for vacation bible school. Aiden didn’t want to go. He said he didn’t want to do anything that said school this summer. LOL! Later he said that Chase and Alex get to be with me all the time, and he never gets a chance to be with me without them so he just wanted to spend time with me. I liked that reason much much better.

Alex and Chase were in the same room. They put another girl in their class to shadow Chase.  Turned out he did GREAT!! They both had lots of fun. The theme was called “Crocodile Dock”. Chase refers to the church now as “crocodile church”. It’s cute.

Wednesday Alex embarrassed me SO SO BAD. Alex is very much one who seeks approval from people. He is HIGH ENERGY but still wants to please people, he does not want to let people down EVER. Soooo he was engrossed in playing and told them he had to go to the bathroom. They escorted him and sent him in alone. He didn’t make it and pooped in his pants. He paniced and didn’t know what to do. So he stripped down and tried to get the poop off his underwear. Did he use toilet paper? NO. He used the wall. He smeered and smeered poop all over the wall and all over himself trying to “clean” his underwear. He had been in there so long the teenager that took him got the preschool director to check on him. She found him naked covered in poop in a bathroom stall covered in poop. She said she wasn’t sure how he got it places where he got it…  She cleaned him up and cleaned up the bathroom as well, and put him in new clothes.

So I got there and she came over to me and told me what he did. She was “nice” about it but did tell me in front of an aquaintance I don’t know well. So it was all the more embarrassing. She was very descriptive and went on and on… I was so mortified. I didn’t even know WHAT to say. She did say Alex told her “I am not a big boy anymore am I?” and when she asked why he did it he told her “I just wanted to get the poop out of my pants”. So she knew he wasn’t just being BAD making a mess. He was trying to fix the situation. Still embarrassing for me as his mom….

So when we got home we talked about better ways of dealing with the situation and asking for help when you have an accident is a big boy thing to do….

So even though I was so embarrassed I took them back and they finished out the week and had a great time. Next week they are signed up for Memorial Road Church… hopefully it goes better.

Mini DAN Conference : Day 1

June14

Neil and I went to our very first DAN (Defeat Autism Now!) conference today. It’s a mini conference that is hosted in Norman. We were so excited to be able to go. It was SO AWESOME!! We learned alot today, and were refreshed on alot of great information!! It was GREAT!!

The day opened with a overview of what we would be learning, then there was a talk on viral issues, and then digestive issues. Later they talked on metabolic issues, treatments that can be done safely, and what to start with, and what steps to take in recovering our kids. It was all really great information.

Tomorrow there will be alot of discussion on supplements and nutrition!!

We are super blessed that Dan and Mindy are watching the boys so we can go!! Later I will update with more detail!!

Been a while…

June11

So I thought I would do a bunch of posts and update you on all the stuff that I have missed posting about but really not feeling like it so I will give you little blurbs in this one post. LOL!! So we’ll start now and work backwards.

As you can see I have updated the website again. I added a lightbox feature for viewing the pictures on the main page, and changed the theme. I also have added photo albums in the blue bar at the top. So far I only have one uploaded but will add more as we go along…. So that will be nice for people wanting to see the pictures or go back and look at old stuff, you won’t have to scroll through all the blogging… or lack of blogging. Haha!!

So the only album in there right now is from the “Walk Now For Autism” event.  It was last Saturday and it was GREAT!! With our family and friends and all kids counted there were 25 people on our team!! There were tons of people at the event and it was alot of fun. We were really touched that our friends walked with us!! So you can go see the pictures in the photo album tab.

My mom came to visit! She was here for a few days, and we had a really nice visit. The boys LOVED getting to see her. We hung out mostly. She was here for girls night and got to meet all of my friends, we went to Amy’s going away party, we also hit the zoo, and then ended up in Elk City. It was really nice visit.

Neil’s Uncle Brent came into town as well! Brent is alot of fun, the boys LOVE getting to see him as well. We mostly just hung out with him at Neil’s parents house. We did go swim with him at Neil’s Grandparents, and then go to dinner at MiMi’s. He, Neil’s Dad, Neil, the boys, and Amy all went to the spraygrounds while I was in Elk City. They all had fun with that too. It was a really nice visit.

School is out for the summer!! Aiden is THRILLED to be free!!! Wooho!!! We don’t have any crazy plans for the summer just lots of time at the zoo and spraygrounds with friends… Both his friends in the neighborhood have pools so he has been swimming lots. He’s already very very tan.

Baseball should start soon. Aiden signed up to play. We are waiting on a call from his coach still… hopefully we get one soon….

So those are the highlights… maybe I will get better at posting regularly one of these days….
