Happy Valentines Day
So the boys now that they a GFCF for 6 months + don’t get a lot of their old favorites. So anytime I can make something they used to love it’s a really really fun treat. A few weeks ago I found a recipe for gfcf poptarts. I was thrilled to try them. Sooo I told the boys last night I would make them for breakfast this morning. We went to Akins to get a few last ingredients.
The dough for the outside has no sugar in it at all. The inside I used all natural, organic preserves, no sugar added. The boys picked out strawberry, and apricot/peach.
So last night we put the boys to bed. Well the little boys. Neil and Aiden had a lego sorting session. Yes they have all legos sorted into colors and men, all have their own rubbermaid box. I made poptarts for 2 hours. How many did I make? 12. Chase was so excited he was fixated on the poptarts and wouldn’t stop asking for them. He wasn’t getting that they would be for breakfast. He asked about 35 times in the hour before bed for a poptart.
This morning the boys woke up and were SOOOO EXCITED. I gave Aiden and Alex theirs. I had frosted them all lightly for valentines day, and I thought briefly I shouldn’t frost them all incase Chase wanted a plain one but went ahead. Chase was excited then went looking around the kitchen and in the cabinets. We asked what he was doing and he said “I want a clean one”. He agreed to try a frosted one then backed out and asked for a tissue. I thought he needed it for his nose before he took a bite. No he started trying to use the tissue to wipe off the frosting. I got a knife and cut the frosting off and he was happy.
I personally thought the poptarts were pretty gross. They have a rice flour base, and rice flour when cooked with is really grainy. Plus it used some bean flours too and the smell was horrible to me so I kept smelling it later. I guess that means they have extra protein though right? LOL! Next time I think I will try making them with a different flour for the base and see what happens!! Overall though they were a BIG hit! I added photos in the photo album of the poptarts and the boys eating them!
