EEEEEEEK EEG!
So we went to get a EEG done on Chase. We wanted to rule out any seizure type activity in his brain. We were told he would need to sleep during the procedure. They scheduled it for 9 am. So we basically let him sleep 3 hours. Then woke him up and watched TV and went to Wal-Mart for a few hours and just let Chase roam around the toy isles while we watched sleepily.
Chase does not SLEEP. I have never met a child who requires less sleep. I was very concerned about him going to sleep for the test even with only getting a few hours.
We get up to the room. It’s FREEZING in there. They lay him down and start using this toothpaste like glue to stick wires to his head. Chase has a major aversion to sticky. He doesn’t like people touching his head or face much either. So he was not digging the 23 wires stuck to his head with sticky cement thing. He started crying screaming “EWWWWW”. He got some on his hand and was pretty freaked out by it.
We got them to stop. I held Chase for a while and basically all but got him to sleep. The came in and started placing the wires again. He freaked out again. We just pushed through and got them all stuck. At this point we told him if he was still we would buy him Burger King for lunch. This helped. Burger King is a huge motivator for him. Loves the french fries.
He finally wore himself out from screaming and not having sleep that he passed out on the table. They got their stuff and then woke him up after 15 minutes. I was told it would take a few hours. Personally I think it was kinda mean to make him sleep then wake him up so fast. Seriously. LOL! Anyway getting the gunk out his hair was way worse than getting the wires on his head. He HATES HATE HATES combs and she was trying to comb it out. We got as much out as we could and left with him looking like he had a scalp disease.
Yes we went to Burger King, scalp diseased looking and all. Then we all went home and CRASHED!!! Overall I am very impressed that Chase did the test. This just proves how far we’ve come. A year ago I -know- he would never have been able to do it without being sedated.
***UPDATED*** The EEG came back NORMAL***
